Museum of local history next to the hotel
Together with the three Romanesque churches, the four museum buildings, that are in close proximity, form an "information network" to the World Heritage "Monastic Island Reichenau".
The discovery tour on the Reichenau Island with its various museum stations evokes impressions that combined with a visit to the historic buildings lets you exeperience the true "spirit of the Reichenau."
You can immerse yourself in the Middle Ages in the largest of the new museum buildings at the existing museum in the "Old Town Hall". Among the presented exhibition topics are a.o. the architectural history of the Cathedral of St. Marria and St. Markus and the monastery, the poetries of the monk Walahfrid Strabo, the so-called monastery plan of St.Gallen, the work of the scientifically active monk Hermann the Lahmen and the relic worship. There is an emphasis on the representation of the illumination of Reichenau.
The small museum buildings at St. Georg and St. Peter and Paul explain the building history of each church. The famous mural art of the church of St. Georg or the topic of prayer fraternization are also discussed.
In the historic "Old Town Hall", one of the oldest half-timbered house of southern Germany (12th/15th century), the history of Reichenau is presented.
