Vegetables on the Reichenau Island
About 83 businesses (full and part-time employment) share the existing acreage of 120 hectares. Especially these small family businesses guarantee that the Reichenau has to offer a horticultural assortment ranging from chives and parsley to cauliflower and greenhouse cucumbers.
In recent decades, major efforts have been made to develop vegetable growing: Irrigation network for the whole island, centralized marketing, from integrated and controlled cultivation and expansion of the 40 ha of greenhouse. All these measures, despite relatively small acreage today, allow annual production of around 14.000 tons of fresh vegetables
